Who's allowed to join this club?

Anybody who has a passion for playing and developing video games. We’re accepting of all, whether you're an SJSU student or not. We’ve even had middle school and high school students join up with us in the past.

Do I need to have experience in game development to join the club?

Nope. You don't need any art, programming, or game developemt experience to join us. We'll teach you the basics of what you need to know or at least point you in the right direction.

How do I join?

Take the time to come to one of our meetings, get acquainted with one of the officers, and say "I wanna join GameDev Club". Majority of our announcements are made on Discord and through emails, so conisder joining our Discord Server and !email list! or stay connected by following us on any of our social media platforms that are displayed at the bottom of the page.

Where and what time does Game Dev. meet up?

Are meetings are held in the Innovation Center which is located at the basement level of the Martin Luther King Library at downtown San Jose. Look for the sign that has "GameDev Club" written on it. We meet every Thursdays at 7:00 pm druing the SJSU Fall and Spring semester. Come on by and say hi to us!

We usually help people get into groups on the first or second week of the semester.

How do I form/join a team in Game Dev. Club?

Try asking a group whether you can join or not. Even if you don’t ask to join or form a group, we can help you put you into a group. You can also ask people if they want to work with you for any upcoming game jams.

I work alone. Is that a problem?

Not at all, but it is highly encouraged you join or create a team to lessen your workload and to gain experience working in a team.

What in the world is a game jam?

A game jam is an event in which you and your team must create a video game, usually tailored to a theme, within a given amout of days, usually 2 or 3.

What happens if me/my team are not able to create a video game in the time span of the game jam?

Don’t worry about it. The club’s purpose is to help you gain experience in any form we can, whether that experience is gained through failure or success. The truth is, there are teams who aren’t able to create a game within that time span due to other obligations. Try not to let your other team members down though.
