Greetings Game Dev.,
The semester is over, but that doesn’t mean that you have to stop creating games over break! I encourage everyone to learn more about the game engines you’re using and create hella gnarly games ya dig? (plus it will get you ready for this upcoming global game jam on January 29th-31st). And if you do create a game, it would be really cool if you could show the club what you have done over the break. Also, the t-shirt contest is still happening since there wasn’t that many entries. So you have till December 31st to submit your entries to our email: [email protected]. Voting will take place over the span of January, so be vigilant. And above all else, enjoy your winter break.
Lead your humble tribe of humans from it's primitive, caveman origins to a prospering, world conquering civilization. Explore vast, beautiful procedurally generated worlds - hunt and scavenge for food to feed your starving people! Meet, collaborate, and compete with other civilizations - trade resources and grow your civilization's economy - wage wars of epic proportions for glory and for the motherland! Research new technologies, build horrendous weapons of mass destruction - discover cures for infectious diseases - construct buildings for your humans to live and work in - all in this epic real time strategy game that lets you recreate a unique and exciting new history for humanity every time you play it!

hOI Game Dev,
For this last upcoming meeting on Thursday, we will be presenting the game that we have made for this game challenge. I understand that most of you need to focus on your final exams coming up, but it would be really cool if you could come and show off what you have. After all, it is always nice to see how far we’ve come as game developers.
The T-Shirt Design contest is coming to an end on December 4th. Send your designs to our email: [email protected] for a chance to have your design on our upcoming shirts!
Also, be aware that SJSU Game Dev will be hosting Global Game Jam from January 29th – 31st! We will notify you where the event is held later on, so keep your eyes peeled.
On another note, if you are interested in holding an officer position please come talk to me. I need help and I can’t run SJSU Game Dev. Club on my own. It would also be nice to hear how you would like to change Game Dev. Club.

Hello Game Dev.,
There are a quite a bit of announcements, but please read through all of it. This upcoming Thursday we are having a SPECIAL GUEST: Angela Wu, who was able to successfully fund her game, Grimwood, on Kickstarter. So come by and learn more about her process for making the game. Also, THERE WILL BE A T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST from now till December 4th. So if you want to see your logo on our Game Dev. shirts next semester, participate foo and get started on those designs. A guideline/submission page will be opened up later on this week. Speaking of December 4th, THAT IS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE WHEN WE ARE PRESENTING OUR GAMES, so come and show off what you’ve been doing this month. Again, we’re keeping in mind that people were a bit busy this past month and a half due to midterms. So don’t worry and show off what you got. Also, INTERNATIONAL GAMES DAY is coming up this Saturday in the MLK Library from 11 am – 6 pm. If you are interested in helping out, come by room 219 in the MLK library on November 18th (Tomorrow) at 1:00 pm. Also, the CSU EAST BAY GAME JAM is coming up. So if you are interested please sign up here: https://goo.gl/5ha9kD. A shuttle will not be provided, but I hope that doesn’t deterrent you from trying to go. I’m also hoping to have a little GAME DAY for us on December 10th, so if you’re interested fill out this survey: https://goo.gl/XrqNsS . Lastly, I would like to CONGRADULATE Arthur, Joshua, Tamara, Elle, Matt, David, and Azura for getting 3rd place in the San Jose Innovation Challenge and winning the People’s Choice Award with their video game, Carbon Runner. That’s really tight.

Extra Life for us is over, but it is still the beginning.
I want to thank everyone that donated to the Extra Life Charity Stream. I want to thank everyone that made it possible, such as the restaurant, AFKgg, who lent us a computer to stream from, Garret Cooper who gave us steam codes for his video game: “Black Ice”, Magfest who gave us passes for Magfest to give out during our stream, GaymerX who gave us steam codes for the game: “Read Only Memories”, the Martin Luther King Library for giving us a space to stream the event (shout-out to Teresa Slovokia), Daniel Ross who help set up the stream on youtube, Erin Gunderud for organizing the streamers to stream, and Pauline Pham for touching up the flyers for this event. I want to thank the viewers who had the time to take a look at the channel and possibly shared it to other friends. I also want to thank all of the streamers who were willing to give up an hour of their time to help us out. Without everyone working together, we wouldn’t have been able to raise $874.95 for the Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Even though we didn’t reach our goal of $1,000 like last year, we were still able to raise 87% of that, which is hella dope. The Extra Life Stream is barely beginning on November 7th, so stay tuned for more streams and maybe help other people reach their goals.

Hola muchachos y muchachas,
The next game challenge will be announced this upcoming Game Dev. meeting. If you have any game theme ideas, then please comment below. I will literally be putting all of the suggested game themes (even the ones from the last game challenge) into a hat and pulling two out (one alternate theme and the theme itself). In other news, the Extra Life Charity Event (http://www.extra-life.org/) is happening on November 7th, but Game Dev Club will be participating in this event on November 5th at 6:00 pm till the 6th, ending at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in streaming, sign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1k1E4jyM8eybaQBOpaWTUaPFm3qFBjfcnyq6R0D_...
If you are just interested in helping out, contact me or another officer via email, slack, or facebook. (food will be provided to the streamers and the attendees). All Game Dev. members are welcome.

Hello Game Dev.,
This upcoming week we are having a Game Night, so bring your board games, your 3DS’s, and your rich personalities to this wondrous night. Ricky Oliver will be bringing a Wii U with Smash 4 (bring your game cube controllers if you can) to the meeting and Daniel Gonzalez will be bringing his Xbox 360 (bring fightsticks and Xbox 360 controllers if you can) that has a plethora of fighting games on it. We will also have an extra T.V. for one other console that you wish to bring. At the beginning of the meeting next Thursday, a new game challenge will be announced. So now would be the perfect time to recruit new members and create new teams (pls.). Also, I implore you to create an account on our website (sjsugamedev.com) and submit your games in .exe format. It shows that we actually exist and do things ‘n’ stuff. Also, there will be an event called Extra Life Charity Stream where Game Dev. will be streaming games every hour for 24 hours straight on November 5th-6th in the library. If you’re interested in signing up to stream for an hour, there will be a sign-up sheet posted soon (more information also coming up!!!).
This is a (Two-Level) demonstration of a top down 8-bit puzzle solving game with horror elements in mind.
[THIS IS ONLY A DEMO! WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON THIS GAME FOR FURTHER ENJOYMENT! IT ALSO ONLY INCLUDES WINDOWS AND LINUX VERSIONS, BOTH 32 BIT AND 64 BIT.]
ASD - Controls for Moving forward and backward, or strafing left and right.
[Mouse Control for smooth rotation. Move mouse left or right.]
- Return to Main Menu
[GAMEPADS ARE ALSO ENABLED FOR THIS GAME, USE THE JOYSTICK OR PRESS A TO RETURN TO THE MENU!]
In this game, you have 30 seconds to beat a puzzle in each room before it hits zero, if the countdown reaches to zero, then you will be teleported and or fallen back to the previous level, otherwise if you have no more rooms from falling, then the ghosts will absorb you out of existence and its game over...
What makes this game unique is that with a simple collision detection to allow the player to reach to the next level, a whole endless amount of puzzles can be incorporated to this game to expand replays.
You play as a lost hooded girl who upon finding out that some souls and spirits are trapped by twisted, evil ghosts you journey through treacherous rooms to reach towards the sacred Spirit Gems to ensure safety and freedom to the kidnapped souls. Failure to do so will result in you becoming the latest kidnapped soul.
It works with the rule of beating a challenging puzzle within 30 seconds to allow the player to reach to the next room, so you use the [W,A,S,D] keys along with the mouse to move around as you attempt to solve each room, Gamepad support is also enabled for seamless control.
Made for 30 Second Madness!!!!
Bake cakes for ghosts.
(You have 30 seconds.)
Your customers will ask for three different types of cakes.
Use ← and → to walk.
Press ↑ while standing behind the bowls of cake mix
to add different cakes to your queue (you can have 3 at a time)
and press Spacebar while walking to send your cakes
flying to your customers.
Rapidly firing three cakes at a ghost may cause it
to get stuck at the front of the line.
The game will still be playable, but it will be hard to tell which ghost
is asking for which cake.

Greetings fellow game developers,
The game challenge is coming to an end this upcoming Thursday (for those who aren't aware). Come by and show off the game you put your blood, sweat, and tears into and let us reminisce on the battles that we fought together, on the comrades that we made and lost, and on what we gave up and gained in order to accomplish our goals. Let us reflect on our long-strung journey to become game developers.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are presenting our games next week (Oct. 1st). This week, Arthur will be giving another workshop on Gamemaker Studio. So if you have questions, this upcoming Thursday is your chance to get them answered. Also, there will be a Prismic Shift Tournament on Tuesday at 6:00 pm in order to pay homage to the greatest shmup ever (the prize is a mystery). The link to the event page is: https://www.facebook.com/events/1622434791355658/. The game challenge is coming to a close very soon, so get cooking!

Crazy meeting, huh? Well, life moves on. The next meeting will still be at the Mezzanine at 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm. This upcoming Thursday Arthur Baney will be giving a tutorial on how to use Gamemaker Studio, so you guys should go download it from their website and install it beforehand so no time is wasted during the tutorial (http://www.yoyogames.com/studio/download) *free game engine to use*. If you are using a different game engine for your game, you can always just come on by and work on your game too. Hope to see you soon (without any fire alarms going off)

Hello my constituents,
I apologize for not keeping up with the updates. Wellanywaysherewego. Since the MLK library has extended its hours for students, the club will now be meeting from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. For this upcoming meeting, teams are going to show off their game idea through a paper prototype (which is the game you are creating materialized into a board game). Everyone is welcome to walk around and play each others games. If you do not want to participate in the paper prototyping, you are welcome to work on your video game as well (although paper prototyping really helps when trying to get the mechanics of the game down). If you are new to the club and have yet to find a team, come talk to one of the officers and we can sort somethin out.

Just letting you know that this week’s meeting will be at the Mezzanine at 7:00pm. And guess who will be there to meet you? Albert Chen from Cogswell University! He’ll be here to talk about the video game industry and answer many questions you’ll probably have.
On another exciting note, we’ll be participating in San Jose’s Mini Maker Faire! If you’re interested in volunteering with us on September 5/6, let us know and we’ll get you on board! Also, if you want a game that you’ve made to be on the cabinet, contact your closest Game Dev officer and let us know! We’ll do our best to get it on there.
Speaking of officers! Want to be at the heart of how your club runs? Think your club officers are hella cool? We still have an opening for Game Development Vice President and Treasurer! Just ask us any questions you may have and we’ll be sure to answer your concerns and interests as soon as possible!

Game Development Club will be meeting on Thursday from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the Mezzanine again. During this meeting, I will give a powerpoint on forming teams. After the most profound powerpoint you will ever hear in your life, Game Dev. members will form groups (or not if you so choose) and the officers will announce the first game jam theme. There will also be an alternate theme provided if the first game jam theme is not your cup of tea. Remember, the theme suggestions will close off on Tuesday at 11:59 pm. If you want to suggest a theme, just post it in the general channel in slack or email it. Also, Game Dev. Club will be participating in the San Jose Pride Festival on August 30th. If you are interested, message me through Facebook or slack.

Hope you're all having a wonderful summer! This is an invite to join our Slack chat, if you haven't already, to start collaborating on summer projects! Just sign up at: https://sjsugamedev.slack.com/ with your SJSU email and get started! Or, you can email us at [email protected] with a non-SJSU email to get an invite. We have a dedicated chat room called Summer-2015 and we invite you all to start making groups or toss around ideas with everyone on the messenger. It's a really great way to stay connected to your friends and fellow club members. We will be finding places for meetings and organizing prototyping for groups working locally and remotely.
In other news, Maker Faire and SubZero went along splendidly and many people were inspired and curious about all the games on our cabinets! Ya'll should try volunteering at these events sometime, it's really great to see how everyone's work is received. We are looking forward to California Extreme and possibly SJ Mini Maker Faire this upcoming semester and can't wait to see what new games you all can get into the cabinets!
Finally, the Pham brothers have a game up and running on the Google Play store! Check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.PrettyCooInc.PigeonCoo and let them know what you think! Let's all work hard to encourage and better each other.
Have a great summer and we look forward to hearing from you on Slack!

Oh snap! Usually, I'll try to have these meeting notes by the Sunday after a meeting, but it's almost finals and I had an essay due. Anyway, here's what happened last meeting:
One of our club members, Theresa, made everyone S'mores Rice Krispies! They tasted delicious, for those of you who missed out. Apparently, she made fudge last time! Hopefully she'll make us something for one of our end of the year parties! Thanks Theresa! Speaking of parties, this week's announcements were all about events.
Technically, this meeting was the last time you could present your game, but you can present during the party too. We will be having our end of the year party this coming meeting on May 7, 2015. Potentially, we can also have a second party on dead day the following week. However, this is still in the works and we'll be taking a vote this coming meeting.
IndieCade submissions have been officially closed! We'll be heading down to Los Angeles with the winning developers. Good luck to the two submissions that have been chosen!
Here's a list of the upcoming events our club will be at:
MAGQuest, the weekend of May 9
Maker's Faire, the weekend of May 16
Subzero, June 6
Here's the official announcement slides:
Apr 26, 2015
This is your brand new secretary, Frankie, speaking. On April 23, 2015 , the SJSU game development club chose their new officers and here are the results:
Co-Presidents: Daniel Evans and Antonio Jimenez
Secretary: Franchesca Natividad
Treasurer: Christopher Lindsay
In an unexpected turn of events, the two opposing candidates running for presidency decided to join forces and tackle next semester as a team. Due to this development, the Vice President office has been left empty. Although, there has been talk of a second election for this spot.
Speaking of things to look forward to, we have our regularly scheduled events this week to attend! Remember this Monday, we'll be having our Prototyping Night in Art Building 241 from 7:30-9:30pm. Later this Wednesday will be lab night for all game development teams in the same place at the same time! Finally, this Saturday from 12-8pm MIS St. Jude Hospital's Stream Fundraiser in MLK Library.
Here's a friendly reminder of events that we will be attending this upcoming month:
MagQuest May 9-10, 2015
Maker Faire May 15-17, 2015
Fanime May 21-25, 2015
